THE PROGRAM
The Yuba College Veterinary Technology Program teaches the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by the individual who desires to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. An individual interested in this career should possess the ability to deal successfully with a variety of people, enjoy working with animals, have an interest in science and medicine and be able to self-direct and work in an organized manner.

Student Program Specialization
Specialization within veterinary technology is common today thereby improving post-graduate employment opportunities for Yuba College graduates. To allow this latitude the following Veterinary Technology Program specializations are available to students:
Yuba College Veterinary Technology Program Options:
- Business Management Option: Completion of VETT52 Human Animal Bond, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in business management, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a clinic business internship.
- Dental Option: Completion of VETT52 Human Animal Bond, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in dentistry, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a dental specialty internship.
- Exotic Animal/Wildlife Option: Completion of the elective course: VETT10 Exotic and Wildlife Medicine, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in wildlife and exotic animal medicine, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a wildlife and/or exotic animal internship.
- Laboratory Animal Option: Completion of VETT 9 Laboratory Animal Medicine, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in laboratory animal medicine, American Association for Laboratory Animal Science ALAT certification, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a laboratory animal internship.
- Laboratory Diagnostics Option: Completion of VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in laboratory diagnostics, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a laboratory diagnostics internship.
- Large Animal Option: Completion of VETT14 Equine Management and Reproduction, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in large animal medicine or surgery and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a large animal internship.
- Public Health Option: Completion of VETT52 Human Animal Bond, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in public health or food hygiene, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a public health or food hygiene internship.
- Shelter Medicine Option: Completion of VETT 56 Shelter Medicine, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in shelter medicine, CET certification, and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a shelter medicine internship.
- Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Option: Completion of VETT11 Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, VETT57R Veterinary Technology Special Projects with an emphasis in small animal emergency and critical care and at least 4 units of VETT5R as a emergency or critical care internship.
THE CAREER
Veterinary Technology is a career path for those who have an affinity for animals and a strong desire to work in a medical/scientific field. Registered Veterinary Technicians work along side veterinarians in providing the health care, medical and surgical treatment of large, small and exotic animals. The work environment can range from the small animal veterinary hospital, to the commercial laboratory setting, public health, zoo facilities, or government/military service.
PERSONAL POTENTIAL
Upon completion of the 2 year, AVMA accredited Program, the student will have completed the requirements for an Associate in Science Degree with many units transferable towards a higher degree. The student will also be eligible to take the California State licensing Board Examination for Veterinary Technicians.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Grants, scholarships and other forms of financial aid are available to qualified Yuba College students.

- CHEM 10, BIO 15 and VETT 91 are prerequisites for admission to the Program. Additional requirements include Program application submission, a written essay, submission of transcripts, and attendance in a half-day Veterinary Technology Orientation Program held in mid-June.
- Additional graduation requirements which must be completed with a "C" or better grade for the A.S. degree and to complete the Program: English 1A, General Education (Humanities, Social Science), and Math 52 (or higher).
- The Health/Physical Education and multi-cultural graduation requirements are satisfied by completion of the Veterinary Technology Program.
