How to Apply
Veterinary Technology Program
1) Complete Prerequisite Courses
BIOL 15 (Bioscience),VETT 91 (Veterinary Assisting) and CHEM 10 (Concepts of Chemistry) or their college level equivalents MUST be completed with a grade of C or better PRIOR to submission of an application for enrollment in the Veterinary Technology Program.
2) Print Application Form
Download and print the Veterinary Technology Program application.
This application should be filled out legibly and in black or blue ink. Do not leave any blank spaces.
3) Write the Essay
With this Application and transcripts please submit a one page, type-written narrative on the following topic:
Define the difference between a Registered Veterinary Technician and an unregistered veterinary assistant. What are the job tasks and working conditions of the Registered Veterinary Technician and what qualities will you bring to the veterinary profession?

Your essay should demonstrate that you have an understanding of, and a desire to perform, the job tasks of the licensed RVT.

4) Obtain Official College Transcripts
Contact all colleges you have attended and request copies of your official transcripts be sent to you. Include these UNOPENED official transcripts with your application packet.
5) Mail the Completed Application Packet
A complete application packet will include the following:
- Veterinary Technology Program Application form, filled out legibly in black or blue ink
- One paged, type-written essay on why you wan to become a Registered Veterinary Technician
- Official (unopened) college transcripts showing completion of biology and chemistry

Applications will be accepted year round and filed according to date received. Only complete Veterinary Technology packets will be reviewed. Selection of candidates for entry into the Veterinary Technology Program occurs each spring therefore any packet that is received after May 15th of each year may not be included in consideration for the subsequent fall semester. Applications received after May 15th will be dated and placed on the wait list.
Should the number of qualified applicants exceed the number of available spaces in the class, a wait list process will be used to establish priority. For more specific information contact the Veterinary Technology Program administrator at 530-741-6962 or vettech@yccd.edu
General application to or enrollment at Yuba College does not imply acceptance into the Veterinary Technology Program. Registration for Program courses is not allowed until after the applicant has been notified in writing of official acceptance in the Program. Qualified applicants will be notified of this preliminary acceptance into the Program by June 1st.
Attendance and participation in the Veterinary Technology Program Orientation is a mandatory requirement before final acceptance of a candidate. This orientation, held on a Saturday in June, is a one day exploration into the teaching formats, academic and physical demands, and dexterity requirements that the Veterinary Technology student can expect to encounter on a daily basis in this two-year program.
